Photographic workshops for children – Photography and cultural consciousness

The aim is to enable the children from the displaced camps of Khartoum from Juba, Malakal, and Rumbek to experience the pleasure of photography, to stimulate them to create and exhibit their own work.

The project culminated in a series of workshops for eight to thirteen-year old pupils who usually don’t have access to a camera. At the end they will produce their own group exhibition.

The project begins with a vision of raising the profile of Sudanese cultural diversity with a focus on customs and traditions.

We would like to share our knowledge of photography and spread the benefit of the activity of photography to children based in refugee camps in Sudan and South Sudan. We are operating in places such as Schools, Youth Clubs, Community Centres.

Our mission is to support children in need to use photography as a medium to speak out about their concerns, culture and hopes.

The children will have the opportunity to learn the basics skills of photography to produce at the end of the workshop their own group exhibition. We would like to give the children the chance to express a real sense of their history and culture by showing their own photographic work. Their images will offer extraordinary insights into ways of life, captured by the children of Sudan that live challenge on a daily basis.

Our project let people in need to document their lives, as only they can really know them. These projects thereby channel the unique subjectivity of the participants into a direct powerful from of human communication.
